Problems when Javascript isn't working?Javascript does not appear to be available. This will stop you from saving your pattern and sharing it with others. It may prevent the design tool from displaying properly when you change instruction type displayed. You can improve this by looking at a different tab and then returning to this or by minimising your browser window and viewing it again.

Disk instructions

As you continue this braid, the slot numbers will change. Just carry on moving the top right thread to the bottom right, the bottom left thread to the top thread, and turn the disk anticlockwise.

6 x 3 Kongoh Gumi

This 18 thread round braid uses the Kongoh Gumi braiding pattern that Craft Design Online has been using in our Kumihimo tool. This time we're moving up to 3 threads per group, which we couldn't do with the other tool.

The Kongoh Gumi braiding pattern has pairs of threads from opposing groups crossing to the other side, then continuing round to the next pair of groups. So the braid shape is determined by the numbers of threads in each group. We will add more braids based on this pattern with different group sizes over time.

Using Marudai Painter

Click the color you want, then click on the braid to place it. Alternatively, click on a thread in the first diagram of the braiding sequence to change its thread colour and see the effect on the braid.
